Word Chain Snake strategy

A strong run is built from three habits: score with longer words, keep the snake from trapping itself, and use crossings only when they improve the future board.

Prefer useful length, not just maximum length

Long words score well, but the best long word is one that also opens space. A seven-letter word that fills a corridor and leaves the head facing a wall can be worse than a five-letter word that turns toward open cells. Before placing a word, look at the last two or three letters and ask where the head will land.

When several words are available, choose the one that ends near flexible space. Corners are powerful when you deliberately turn out of them, but dangerous when the final letter lands there with only one route left.

Leave exits

The board is a movement puzzle. Each new cell is a score opportunity, but it is also a wall for future moves. Try to leave at least two possible directions after a word. A single exit can be fine early in the game, but late in the game it often forces a short word or a surrender.

On small boards, avoid drawing a tight loop around empty cells unless you already know how to enter them. On larger boards, divide the board into lanes and sweep through them gradually. This makes it easier to use long words without cutting off a pocket of unused cells.

Use crossings deliberately

A crossing is valuable because it adds score without consuming a new cell at the crossing point. However, crossing too early can make the center of the board crowded. Good crossings usually happen when the matching letter is on the edge of an old word and the new path continues into open space.

If a crossing forces the snake to pass into a narrow dead end, save it for later. The bonus is only useful if the route remains playable after the word is placed.

Recovering from a cramped board

When space gets tight, shorter words can be correct. Look for words that bend the path back toward open cells or reuse a matching crossing letter. Backtracking can also rescue a position when it follows the route naturally and buys one more turn to reach a wider area.

In Snake mode, do not chase every apple immediately. The apple bonus grows, but a blocked board ends the run. A good apple route is one that collects the bonus while still leaving room for the next word.
